Our Philosophy

Smartgrowth Real Estate is non traditional real estate because it extends architecture, urban design and planning into the next step of selling and marketing to the end user. It combines the skills of experts in architecture, urban design and planning with those of real estate marketing and sales.

Many real estate companies focus on simply selling a property. Smartgrowth focuses on beyond the selling of just property, by combining with it the design of the estate as part of the whole process of developing a site. Thus comsumers are not simply buying a block of land, but on it can be a house that we designed, and with it with it comes a streetscape that we designed so that the land, the house and the streetscape are an intgrated package.

Established in Hobart in 2001, Smartgrowth has steadily developed a strong project base around Tasmania. Smartgrowth's principles of providing an integrated approach to Architecture and Urban Design have been embodied in many master planned projects since inception. Working through a "designing in public" approach has driven many of the master planned projects to their success.

Our Approach

Smartgrowth Real Estate was developed by Sydney architect George Leich, whose main interest is architecture but has extended into urban design and master planning. Over the years, he would prepare a product that would eventually end in the hands of real estate agents, however he found that they often did not serve the process in the way he had envisaged.

"The product I create has a specific image and purpose, but often those selling it were not interested in what I had created, but were just selling it as simply another product. I believe that for projects such as those I have created, the selling process need to be different to what it might normally be, to ensure that the end consumer was aware of and would gain maximum benefit and use of specific emelents I had integrated into the design."
